My Therapeutic Approach

There is no single 'right' way to approach counselling. Each individual brings their own uniqueness with their own history, values, relationships, and strengths, and therapy should reflect that.

I see you as the expert in your own life, and my role is to support you with care, curiosity, and respect. Our work together is tailored to your individual needs, guided by what feels most important to you at the time, and always at a pace that feels safe.

Your goals, priorities, and experiences may change over time, and our sessions can adapt and evolve alongside you.

Person-Centred

At the heart of my work is a person-centred approach. This means creating a space where you feel genuinely heard, accepted, and understood, without judgement or pressure. Therapy is a collaborative process, where we work together to explore your experiences.

I work alongside you with care, and respect, supporting your autonomy and trusting your inner capacity for growth, insight, and change.

There is no expectation to arrive with clear answers.

Trauma-Informed

I work in a trauma-informed way, noticing how past experiences, including relational, cultural, or systemic trauma can shape how we think, feel, and respond to the world. Rather than focusing only on symptoms, this approach pays attention to safety, choice, and empowerment within the therapeutic relationship.

We move gently, paying attention to your nervous system and emotional boundaries. Therapy is paced with care, exploring only what feels manageable for you, and allowing space for grounding, reflection, and regulation. This approach aims to support a sense of stability and trust, so that exploration can happen without feeling overwhelming or re-traumatising.

Culturally Sensitive & Anti-Oppressive

Culture, family expectations, faith, migration experiences, and generational roles can deeply influence our sense of self and wellbeing. This includes the unique challenges faced by those raised between cultures.

I offer culturally sensitive and anti-oppressive counselling, recognising how social systems, inequities, and power dynamics affect individuals, families, and relationships. This approach honours your background and lived experience, while holding space for the complexities, tensions, and unspoken expectations that can arise between cultural identity, personal needs, and relational dynamics.

Relational

My work is grounded in relational understanding of how our connections - past and present - shape our sense of self, safety, and wellbeing. This includes family relationships, intimate partnerships, cultural and community ties, and the roles we take on for others.

In therapy, we can explore patterns, boundaries, communication, and the emotional impact of relationships - whether at home, at work, or in your wider community - in a way that feels supportive and empowering.

Integrative

While my core foundation is person-centred, I draw on integrative therapeutic approaches to meet your individual needs. This allows sessions to be responsive rather than following a set formula, adapting the tools, focus, and pace as your goals, priorities and circumstances change.

An integrative way of working recognises that people are complex, and that different moments may call for different ways of understanding and support. Therapy is not a fixed process - it is something we shape together.

Feminist-Informed

My work is informed by a feminist perspective, which recognises how societal, cultural, and relational factors influence identity, roles, and wellbeing. This approach can be particularly helpful in exploring expectations, power dynamics, and gendered pressures within relationships, family systems, and broader societal contexts.

While this lens highlights the experiences of women, it benefits everyone, including individuals, couples, and families navigating relational, cultural, or life-stage challenges. Sessions provide a collaborative, empowering space to explore dynamics, strengthen self-understanding, and make choices that align with your values - all guided at a pace that feels safe and meaningful to you.
