Focused Support When You Need It Most

What to Expect in Sessions

Sometimes you don't want ongoing counselling. You may be facing a difficult decision, feeling overwhelmed by a particular situation, or simply want focused support to help you move forward.

Single Session Therapy (SST) is designed to make the very most of one therapeutic appointment. Rather than seeing it as the first session of a longer course of therapy, we work together as though this may be the only session you need.

This approach is structured, collaborative and focused on helping you leave with greater clarity, understanding and practical next steps.

What happens during an SST Session?

Before your appointment, you'll complete a short questionnaire so I can understand what has brought you to therapy and what you hope to achieve.

During your 90-minute session we will:

  • identify the issue you most want to focus on

  • explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences

  • work together to develop new perspectives and insights

  • identify strengths and resources you can draw upon

  • agree practical next steps that feel realistic and meaningful for you

At the end of the session, we'll review what has been most helpful and discuss whether you feel further sessions would be beneficial. Many people find that one focused session is enough for their immediate needs, while others choose to return at a later date if new challenges arise.

Is Single Session Therapy right for me?

SST may be suitable if you:

  • feel stuck with a specific issue

  • need support making an important decision

  • are experiencing anxiety or overwhelm around a particular situation

  • want focused, practical therapeutic support

  • are unsure whether ongoing therapy is right for you

  • have previously had counselling and want a "top-up" session

Can one session make a difference?

For many people, yes.

Research has shown that meaningful therapeutic change can occur within a single session. While not every difficulty can be resolved in one appointment, many clients leave feeling clearer, more confident and better equipped to move forward.

There is no expectation that you will continue therapy unless you feel it would be helpful.

When ongoing counselling may be more appropriate

If you're looking to explore longstanding patterns, work through complex trauma, or would benefit from regular therapeutic support over time, ongoing counselling may be the better option.

If I'm unsure which approach is likely to be most helpful, we'll discuss this together before we begin so you can make an informed decision about what feels right for you.

Why is the fee different?

Single Session Therapy is a specialist 90-minute appointment that includes preparation before we meet, allowing us to use our time together as effectively as possible. The longer session provides the opportunity to explore one issue in depth without feeling rushed, while the pre-session questionnaire helps us begin with a clear focus.

The fee also reflects the preparation involved and the focused nature of the work, with the aim of helping you leave with greater clarity and a practical sense of your next steps.
